Ling Lan is the main character of It's Not Easy to Be a Man After Traveling to the Future.

Ling Lan was an outwardly cheerful person in her previous life to avoid causing sadness for her relatives.
During her current life, Ling Lan was traumatized by the perpetually-smiling Number Five's hellish training and thus began following the example of Instructors Number One and Number Nine by always wearing a "cold poker face". She also is highly protective of her followers and loved ones. For example, Ling Lan is especially protective of her childhood followers (seen by Ling Lan as little brothers, sometimes as sons of her own); even if a close friend joins her team, if he is unable to work well with her other followers she will turn him away. Li Lanfeng closely avoided being left behind by Ling Lan for this reason.
She also has a very beautiful and bright smile, even having a spirit-affecting trait related to smiling. Unfortunately, her ice-cold slackface is most often hiding her natural charm.
She seemed to take the role of a spiritual life coach of her friends and subordinates. Even if she showed them how ruthless she can be, she doesn't allow her actions to be viewed in negative light and affect their mental health for fear that it could cause latent problems in their future. Thus, whenever she notice some problem in their mentality, she would step up and encourage them.
Ling Lan is showed to have complete faith in those who believe in her (members of the Lingtian Battle Clan and 250 Mecha Clan). She believes that since these people puts their whole trust in her, she could trust them back in return.
When Ling Lan applied for the formation of a battle clan in the Mecha World, the assignment showed her ruthlessness and decisiveness as a leader. She had Li Lanfeng use his spectre powers kill the 20 hackers from the Caesar Empire. While Li Shiyu was internally reprimanding her for this action, he can't help but commend her firm decision, saying that she has the heart of a true soldier which he lacked.

Past life [ ]
In Ling Lan's past life, she was bedridden due to a mysterious disease that continuously destroyed and regenerated the cells in her body. Thus she was forced to suffer excruciating pain for every waking second. Due to this strange illness, the government funded her treatment however she still succumbed to it, dying at a young age.
And after more than two decades of mental, emotional, and financial pressure, her family was saddened but also relieved at Ling Lan's death.
Later she learned that her initial spiritual level at tier-2 caused her to be constantly sick and bedridden. However, at age 3 the sudden deterioration of her condition stemmed from Little Four's existence which increased her spiritual power from tier-2 to tier-3. And her body was unable to support her immense spiritual self leading to the slow deterioration of her body and death.

After the news of Ling Xiao's death was released. A branch member of the Ling family N-generations apart from Ling Xiao tried to inherit the honours and privileges gained by Ling Xiao's accomplishments.
To protect Ling Lan and herself, Lan Luofeng proclaimed that her unborn child was a son and only he could inherit Ling Xiao's accolades.
